STANDARD BOILERS TAKE UP A LOT OF SPACE, BUT ARE GREAT IF YOU HAVE A LARGE HOME
WHAT'S A STANDARD BOILER?
Also known as regular, conventional or heat only boilers, standard boilers require separate tanks for both hot water and cold water. Generally, a cold water tank will be stored in the loft, while there is slightly more flexibility on locations for a hot water tank.
Standard boilers do not supply instant hot water. You’ll need to set a timer to heat an entire tank of hot water, and if this runs out you’ll have to wait for another tank to heat.
IS A STANDARD BOILER THE BEST BOILER FOR YOU?
Standard boilers are generally best in large homes with more than 2 bathrooms and a requirement for running multiple hot water outlets at once.
If you’ve not got enough space for a cold water tank in the loft as well as a hot water tank, you’ll probably be better off with a combi or system boiler. However, if you have got the space, a standard boiler can be a good way to heat a large property with a need for lots of hot water.
If you’ve already got a standard boiler, it may be cheaper and easier to replace this with a modern standard boiler, as you’ll already have the required tanks. If your radiator system is quite old, a standard boiler could also be a good option, as your radiators may not be able to cope with the higher water pressure of system or combi boilers.
