Oil boilers are a popular choice for homes off the mains gas grid
WHAT'S AN OIL BOILER?
Oil boilers work in a similar way to gas boilers, except that they use oil as the fuel to heat water. The hot water then provides the central heating via radiators and hot water through the taps in your home.
The difference between a mains gas boiler and an oil boiler is that you’ll have to have your oil supply delivered and stored in a tank. Most oil boilers also have an internal hot water store to supply hot water, rather than instantaneous heating that is more common with gas boilers. You’ll find both standard and combi oil boilers on the market.
Is an oil boiler the best boiler for you?
If you’re not on the mains gas grid, an oil boiler can be a good option for you. But it is the most expensive way to heat your home. Another way to heat your home if you’re not on the gas grid is via an LPG (liquid petroleum gas) boiler.
LPG boilers work in a similar way to gas and oil boilers and come in combi, standard or system types. LPG produces fewer carbon emissions than oil, and the boilers are usually cheaper. You can keep the fuel in a storage tank in your garden, above or below ground. You’ll need to make sure you can get a supplier for the fuel before you can use your boiler.
If you’re considering replacing your oil boiler, it could be worth investigating LPG boilers. Answer a few quick questions about your home and we’ll recommend the best boiler type and models for your home.
