GAS BOILERS ARE THE MOST POPULAR WAY OF HEATING HOMES IN THE UK
WHAT'S A GAS BOILER?
Gas boilers are connected to the mains gas in your property. Since 2005, almost all gas boilers have been more efficient condensing boilers. If you’ve got a plastic flue and a plastic pipe coming out of the bottom of your boiler that goes through the wall and into a drain, you’ve got a condensing boiler. If your boiler was installed before 2005 and doesn’t have these features, then it’s unlikely to be a condensing boiler.
You can get gas boilers in combi, standard or system types.
Is a gas boiler the best boiler for you?
If you’ve already got a mains gas connection, a gas boiler is a good option for you.
Mains gas is usually the cheapest fuel type and has the lowest carbon dioxide emissions, apart from wood. But if your boiler is old, it could be very inefficient.
Heating accounts for 55% of what you spend a year on your energy bills, so if your boiler is inefficient you could be spending much more than you need to. Try to find out what the energy efficiency rating of your old boiler is – if you can’t find it, it could be so old that it doesn’t have a rating. If your boiler is G-rated, you could save up to £305 a year on your energy bills.
